A UUID is a universally unique identifier. GUID is Microsoft's common terminology for UUID-like identifiers, and the terms are often used interchangeably in development.
UUID v4 uses secure random data while reserving bits that identify the version and variant. It is commonly used for database IDs, API request IDs, test data and distributed systems.
